CONSTRUCTION CONTRACTING - Florida Statute 489.115 14 classroom hours of continuing education required, at least 1 hour must deal with workplace safety, 1 hour on the subject of worker's compensation, 1 hour on the subject of business practices, 1 hour on the subject of laws and rules and 1 hour on Florida Building Code advanced modules and 7 hours of general subjects. The State of Florida Construction Industry Licensing Board requires that all registered and certified contractors licensed by the Florida Construction Industry Licensing Board are required to complete 14 hours of continuing education during each renewal period (every two years). The 14 hours must include one (1) hour of the following subjects: workplace safety (WPS), workers' compensation (WC), business practices (BSP), advanced building code (ADV), laws and rules (L&R) and, effective 11/15/07 for general, building, residential, roofing, specialty structure and glass and glazing contractors only, wind mitigation methodologies (WMM). (For example, an excavation or A/C contractor would not have to include a WMM hour as part of their continuing education). Only General, Building, Residential, Roofing, Specialty Structure and Glass/Glazing Contractor need to Include an hour of WMM. The proposed rule language is currently set for adoption and will become effective on November 15, 2007. The new rule requires all general, building, residential, roofing, specialty structure and glass and glazing contractors to complete one hour of continuing education related to wind mitigation methodologies as part of the 14 hours that is currently required. Wind mitigation methodology courses are defined as those topics listed in Section 553.844(2)(b)1.-5., Florida Statutes.
